Dionisio Pelaez' furniture
Last year I discovered Dionisio Pelaez' furniture exhibited at the "Mise en scène" in Barcelona. It was a very pleasant surprise. His work defines a very suggestive and personal aesthetic sensibility, which makes no concessions to the passing fads of the moment. Without losing functionalityt possess that lean and clean "caligraphy" reminding those lines and colors close to Mondrian´s geometric abstraction. Dionisio Pelaez does so, in a natural way, uniting function and aesthetics at the highest level. The Aster table is a true sculpture and still remains a perfect table. I was particularly interested in the importance acquired by the empty, almost transparent spaces that make each piece so lig.
His furniture not only stands out for the quality of its aesthetics but also because they are one off pieces in which there is full involvement of the artist even at the crafting stage. He thus recovers a long tradition of the "Metiers d'art" where creativity is involved in the entire process, from conception to realization. Dionisio Pelaez work is "authors furniture" in which the artist's hand is not only in its design but also in its materialization. In these times of serial production, his approach enhances each piece of furniture to the rank of works of art. So to own a cabinet by Dionisio Pelaez, is to possess something more than a piece of furniture, is also having something unique, reflecting not only the artist's sensibility but retaining the imprint of his working hands.

Not too long ago I had the pleasure of coming across a new face of this old friend and versatile interior designer.
Dionisio's furniture has reached that level of modernity in which the movable object merges with sculpture, always remaining closely linked with quality industrial design exceptionally well finished.
Each piece is a clearly linked with architecture inspired in the classical world, a passion that we both share together with a taste for simple materials such as wood, iron, leather and lacquers.
The fact that we are dealing with unique pieces gives them a special value. Ever since I saw them for the first time I saw the strength in them and thought they are a "must" in all future projects.

I came to Dionisio Pelaez invitation to see his latest forniture designs.
For me, devoted to furniture design seems an activity that involves a huge difficulty.
First, it's itself creation of a design to provide novelty and functionality, then the realization in terms of materials and finishes, and finally production thereof.
I believe that Pelaez is doing, with much effort, a great task and I can attest that every time he shows me new designs, I cannot do more than congratulate him for the achievements. With admiration!

I can’t quite remember when in my life aesthetics became relevant or the desire of harmony became primordial. I have early memories of spending days on end sketching perspectives and constructing models. I am fortunate to have been surrounded by art all of my life, both modern and classic. I have learnt through observation that modern and classic can co exist in the same space, that nothing is impossible or exclusive, I feel this symbiotic coexistence is a requirement for the aforementioned harmony.

The intention is that my works belong not only to me but also to their owner; I do not own them, they generate opportunities that their surroundings complete with their owners lifestyle. I search for designs that are both shapes and voids, much like humans, an amalgamy of great moments and momentary vaccums.
My designs adapt and can be adapted to spaces, environments and people in terms of dimensions as well as materials. The piece of furniture must fit the house, every house has a feel to which one has to add continuity. It is for this reason that I like to meet and get to know my customers, their lifestyle, understand their requirements and preferences.
